Architectural Photography Leeds – 1 Canal Place, Leeds city centre

Architectural Photography Leeds – interiors photographer Leedsphotographers Yorkshire

1 Canal Place has benefitted from extensive repair and refurbishment to create a modern office building from an 18th century warehouse. It’s located on the Leeds Liverpool Canal in central Leeds.  The conversion was designed by Nick Brown Architects of Leeds.

The building was challenging to photograph from the front due to it’s proximity to the main A58 road. Inside, it was much lighter than I expected.  There’s a balcony off the top floor giving views across the city.

If you need to commission architectural photography in Yorkshire please get in touch. I’m a full time photographer covering the UK.

1 Canal Place is on the A58, almost directly opposite the well known landmark, Leeds Commercial Van Hire near Armley Gyratory.

Thanks to the Facebook group, Secret Leeds 2, I’ve been able to discover more information about this building.  It appears on the 1901 Leeds Insurance map as 14 Armley Road “Fodder Mill & Stores.”  At that time Canal Place was the next small street which has now disappeared.

In 1980 it was Smith and Nelson Ltd., billiard table manufacturers. It appears on a photo on the Leodis website here.

In the 1990’s it was a software company office. You can view a 1999 shot of the same building here on Leodis.

The Grand Clock, Grand Arcade Potts Clock, Leeds – new photographs for 2013

The Grand clock – commercial photographers Leeds commercial photography Leeds

It’s been many years since we had clear new photographs of the Leeds treasure that is the Potts Clock at Grand Arcade.  To read an introduction to the clock and it’s history click here.

The Handpicked Hall retailers are leading a campaign to raise funds to restore the clock, which has not worked properly for many years, to it’s former glory.  Please follow the campaign Facebook page here.

As part of my work with Handpicked Hall, access was arranged for me to photograph the clock in it’s pre-restoration condition.  As you will see, it’s quite dirty and the clock room is damp due to water leaking through the roof.

The famous figures look to be in good condition and have not rusted.  I expected them to be made from plaster but they are actually hollow metal that has been made in sections and joined together.  The figures are also much larger than I expected!  I’m 5ft 5in and they are taller than I am, though they do stand on a raised revolving platform.

This is the exterior view of the clock that shoppers see as they walk down the Grand Arcade.

These are my 2013 images of the clock interior.  Due to previous issues with image theft I have watermarked them.  These images may not be copied or posted elsewhere online, but feel free share links to this blog post.

If you would like to see the full set in my online gallery please click here.

If you would like to see the Grand Clock up close for yourself you need to go buy a drink in Santiagos Bar, which is the unit next to the clock.  There is a viewing window through into the clock room at Santiagos that the staff can direct you to.  The window can be seen on the left hand side of the above image behind the ladder.

Event photography Leeds – Esme’s Fourth Birthday Party in Roundhay

event photography Leedsevent photographers LeedsLeeds event photographer

As an event photographer in Leeds I have a wonderful time celebrating the most special occasions with families all over the city.  Tonight’s event in Roundhay was little Esme’s 4th birthday party.  Her mum had put in a super-human effort to decorate the family home in a Disney Princess wonderland style.  I’ve never seen anything like it!

The evening started with Esme and her young guests playing on the bouncy castle while I photographed them having fun.  Everyone then enjoyed a curry and trifle then we went upstairs to “do the cake.”  It was a very noisy time as all the children were given party poppers and hooters – definitely the loudest party anywhere in Leeds that night!

If you require a Leeds photographer for your event or party please get in touch with me to discuss what you need.  Most consumer cameras and smart phones give poor image quality in relatively dark venues and family homes.  As you can see, my specialist equipment can capture much more detail in dark places than a consumer camera.

Apart from the first image (on the trampoline) all the above images were taken after dark inside the family home.

As an architectural photographer in Leeds, I get to scale the highest heights!  These photos were taken from Pinnacle, an office block on Albion Street that is one of Leeds tallest buildings.  Before the 2013 wedding season gets into full swing, I’m undertaking a project for Leeds City Council to gather images of the city’s changing skyline.

Leeds has such a wonderful variety of modern and old buildings and is a photographer’s paradise!

If you require an architectural photographer for internal or external views please phone me on 0787 292 4103 or message me via my contact form here.

The photos on this page and other pictures taken in Leeds are available via the brand Lovin’ Leeds here.
